OSCE Preparation and Support Package
The OSCE Preparation and Support Package is designed to assist you to be successful in your Nursing Council OSCE exam. The package includes 2 online courses and a 1 day face-to-face practical course:
Available dates for face-to-face OSCE Support are currently*:
20th January 2025 - must be registered before 13th January 2025 - run from Foxton, NZ.
19th February 2025 - must be registered before 12th February 2025
12th March 2025 - must be registered by 5th March 2025
2nd April 2025 - must be registered by 26th March 2025
Part 1 NZ Nursing Practice and Theory OSCE preparation - delivered online
This course aligns with the current NCNZ domains & competencies
It is divided into 4 main modules.
1. Professional Responsibility
2. Management of Nursing Care
3. Interpersonal therapeutic communication
4. Interprofessional Health Care
Upon completing the course, the candidate will:
- Understand the ethical and legal requirements of a NZRN
- Understand the cultural considerations required to practice in NZ
- Update their knowledge of the nursing process, interventions for patient/whanau-centered care, and principal assessments
- Update their knowledge of Clinical skills in New Zealand
- Understand medication administration and practice drug calculations in New Zealand.
- Be competent with critical thinking and emergency management
- Practice effective communication between clients and members of the healthcare team
Part 2 New Zealand OSCE Online - delivered online
Upon completion of this course, the Candidate will:
- Understand the NZ OSCE format and structure.
- Gain insight into OSCE expectations.
- Identify common areas of practice where candidates struggle.
- Perform detailed focused and secondary assessments.
- Develop strategies to reduce anxiety.
- Engage in multiple OSCE practice scenarios and become familiar with related charts and documentation.
1 day of Face-to-Face OSCE Support currently delivered in Auckland NZ
Consolidates the knowledge gained from Part 1 and Part 2 and transitions your knowledge into Clinical practice.
- The course is provided by NZ nurses – who are expert patient safety advocates.
- Provides hands-on practice in simulated environments for confidence and competence.
- Offers mock scenarios with trainer feedback to identify individualised areas for improvement.
- Familiarises candidates with the NZ healthcare system and nursing standards.
- Small groups (4-5 per trainer) allow personalised learning and more practice, including written reports.
- Covers diverse clinical scenarios and skills stations to prepare for exams.
- Focuses on developing effective communication skills.
- Includes strategies for managing time, stress, and anxiety under pressure.
- Candidates get to keep clinical resources, handouts, and helpful reminders!
We strongly recommend that you immerse yourself in Part 1 and 2 prior to your face-to-face training. The more effort you put into the self-directed learning materials and being familiar with them, will result in better outcomes and understanding during the face-to-face day. By dedicating time to thoroughly go through these materials, you will be better equipped to engage in discussions, ask insightful questions, and make the most of our time together. We really believe that this preparation will significantly enhance your learning experience and lead to a more effective and meaningful training session.
