The Competency Assessment Programme (CAP) at Lonsdale Education Centre is designed to support internationally qualified nurses (IQNs) in meeting the New Zealand Nursing Council (NCNZ) requirements for registration within the Registered Nurse Scope of Practice.

The CAP consists of two parts:

  • Part 1: A self-directed online learning module covering theoretical components through theoretical components, readings, videos, interactive modules, and case studies to help IQNs understand and integrate into New Zealand's nursing practice.
  • Part 2: includes self-directed online learning and clinical placement, ensuring hands-on application of knowledge in real-world healthcare settings.

 Part 1 – Curriculum Overview

This module assesses and enhances the candidate’s understanding of New Zealand-specific nursing practices, including:
✔ Professional Responsibilities
✔ Cultural Competence & Te Tiriti o Waitangi
✔ HDC Code of Rights
✔ Nursing Assessment & Care Planning
✔ Documentation in Healthcare
✔ Medication Competency

 Assessment Requirements

  • Candidates must complete 80 multiple-choice questions (MCQ) on Medication Calculation & Administration and Nursing Theory within 3 hours.
  • A minimum passing mark of 70% is required.
  • Candidates are allowed one re-sit if necessary.
  • Successful completion grants access to New Zealand Nursing Practice (Part 2).
